1892 Barber Dimes - A public competition was held to decide the winner of the new dime design. That competition saw over 300 drawings submitted, with two being deemed worthy by the committee. Ultimately, Edward Leech disregarded the committee and directed Charles Barber to design the new dime. The 1892 Barber Dime was the first year of issue, but it was met with mixed results. It does, however, remain an important part of numismatic history. 1892 marked the first issue of the new dimes and they are an important year of issue for the Barber Dimes. The United States Mint stopped minting the Barber Dime in 1916.
