Morning Gold & Silver Market Report – 7/9/2014


Gold and Silver prices are trading higher this morning ahead of the release of the minutes from the U.S. Federal Reserve’s June meeting. Natixis analyst Nic Brown explained, “The dovish message we've been getting out of the Fed in the face of all this stronger economic data is, in our view, the main reason why Gold prices are up here.” Two Fed officials were down on U.S. growth in statements yesterday.

U.S. stock futures are pointing to a steady start for Wall Street this morning. Rebecca O’Keefe of Interactive Investor said, “Investors will be hoping that June’s Fed minutes, released later today, will provide some clarity and reassurance that (Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet) Yellen can continue to hold sway over her more hawkish colleagues. However, if the strong employment data we have seen over the past week continue, that may not last.”

At 9 a.m. (ET), the APMEX Precious Metals spot prices were:

  • Gold, $1,327.60, Up $9.10.
  • Silver, $21.18, Up $0.17.
  • Platinum, $1,507.60, Up $10.10.
  • Palladium, $873.50, Up $0.60.
