Mid-Day Gold & Silver Market Report – 7/16/2014

The Gold price has steadied after two days of profit taking. A stronger U.S. dollar and the possibility of the Federal Reserve raising interest rates sooner than expected continue to pressure the yellow metal. ABN Amro analyst Georgette Beoele said, “At best, we'll see prices consolidating at these levels but if more good economic data comes in or the market gets more nervous about expectations for higher interest rates, we'll see further downside.”

Also keeping a ceiling on the Gold price are over-performing stocks. The Dow Jones Industrial Average hit a new intraday record in morning trading on strong earnings reports and a rejected bid by 21st Century Fox to buy Time Warner. The latter move “signals that corporations are healthy and see value in assets that the public markets do not see,” according to Joe Peta, managing director at Novus, a financial technology company.
