Mid-Day Gold & Silver Market Report – 4/13/2011

INFLATION IS ACTUALLY NEAR 10% – Some of us remember the hyper inflationary period that began in the late 1970’s and ran through much of the 80’s. Fed Chairman Paul Volcker was appointed in 1979, as the CPI surged into double digits. If we were to use the same CPI measurements today, that we used in 1979, we would be at 10% inflation right now.

Japan continues to struggle to find a way to end their nuclear crisis. Radiation levels in the sea close to the plant have been spiking, but engineers are hopeful they may be a step closer to removing the radioactive water from at least one of the crippled plants. A strong series of after shocks this week have not helped matters move forward.

There is very little market driving news today, so both the stock and precious metal markets are just teetering.

At 12PM (CT) the APMEX precious metal prices were:

  • Gold price - $1,454.40 (up 40 cents)
  • Silver price - $40.30 (up 17 cents)
  • Platinum price - $1,777.00 (up $3.70)
  • Palladium price - $766.60 (down $4.50)
