Florida - LOCAL DIRECTORY GUIDE
Florida, the southeastern most state of the contiguous United States, is famous for its sunshine, beaches and citrus groves. It’s an immensely popular family vacation destination thanks in part to Walt Disney World, and American retirees have long sought its warm climate. What you may not know is that Florida is an alluring spot for treasure hunters. Florida claims to have more sunken and buried treasure concealed in their coastal waters than any other state. Some people believe that the state contains lost valuables worth millions, in every form from buried pirate loot to treasure bound for the old world lost at sea. However, if you want a sure thing when you look to make new Gold and Silver acquisitions, you may prefer to seek out one of the reputable Precious Metal dealers within Florida.
Bullion Sales Tax in Florida
Florida sales tax laws were changed in 1999 to include an exemption for sales of U.S. legal tender coins. Currently under the laws of the Florida Department of Revenue (http://dor.myflorida.com/dor/tips/tip99a0113.html), the sale of U.S. legal tender—which includes items like Gold and Silver American Eagle coins, old paper currency and rolls of Silver coinage—are not taxable. This loophole applies regardless of the total purchase price of the transaction and regardless of whether the value of the coin is numismatic or intrinsic.
Silver, Gold and Platinum bullion may be exempt from sales tax, if the total purchase price of the transaction is at least $500. It’s important to note that the purchase must be completed in a single transaction to be eligible for the exemption; while the purchase may comprise a combination of Precious Metals and products, it must be made all at once from a single dealer. State sales tax will be collected on foreign coins, as well as bullion any purchase totaling less than $500. Florida’s state sales tax rate currently sits at 6%, though some cities and counties collect additional local taxes. The highest sales tax rate collected in Florida at this time is 7.5%.
