Product Details

These Silver medals were struck using a 1 oz .999 fine Silver planchet, which is normally reserved for the American Silver Eagle program. Set includes medals from West Point and San Francisco Mints.

Product Highlights:
  • Proof Medal contains 1 oz of .999 fine Silver. Authenticated by PCGS and given the PR-70 grade. The First Strike label guarantees this medal was received by PCGS within the first 30 days of the release.
  • Obverse: Designed by Justin Kunz and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill, features a modern rendition of Liberty. "LIBERTY" and "2016" are inscribed in the medal's field.
  • Reverse: Designed by Paul C. Balan and sculpted by Don Everhart, depicts an eagle. The mintmark appears in the field, while "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is inscribed along the rim of the medal.

This medal bears the same design seen on the $100 Gold American Liberty coin struck in 2015. Unlike 2015’s $100 Gold American Liberty coin, however, this 2016 Silver version is not legal tender and bears no denomination.

This medal was produced by both the West Point and the San Francisco Mint facilities. Because both facilities struck this medal using their respective "S" and "W" mintmarks, two different versions of the medal are available to collectors. This is similar to the 10th anniversary of 9/11 medals issued by the U.S. Mint back in 2011. These medals were struck by San Francisco and West Point Mints, resulting in "S" and "W" mintmarks.

Other than the difference in the mintmarks, the design of the 2016 Silver American Liberty Medal is the same. Each medal was struck 3 times with 219 metric tons of pressure by a Graebener GMP 360 TK coinage press. The medals were minted using a vertical die, the obverse struck by a hammer die and the reverse created by the anvil die.
