A coin with a history of beautiful design.

Gold Sovereign coins underwent a few different design changes since their arrival in 1817. While the Gold coins have always featured the reigning monarch on the obverse, it is the reverse designed in 1817 by Italian engraver, Benedetto Pistrucci, which has garnered the most attention. The reverse of the Gold bullion featured Pistrucci’s rendition of St. George slaying the dragon, and it marked a dramatic change from the traditional imagery depicted on coins at the time. The British Royal Mint continued to use this reverse until 1825 at which point they decided to return to a more conventional coat of arms; however, the design made a comeback from 1871 to 1877, and again from 1893 to today.

The Great Britain Gold Sovereign was first minted in 1827 and remained in circulation until 1932 when Britain went off the Gold standard.

Absolutely fantastic!!

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

I was looking for a coin that would be perfect for a pendant. Perhaps something not as modern but not ancient. I figured this was the perfect coin. The order came packed quite nicely and discrete. Now the coin I received was STUNNING for being a random year coin. Only had very light wear on for being over 100 years old. I ended up placing my coin in a custom made bezel. I might order one more of these because now my GF wants one too lol. Thanks :)

Very Nice Coin for New Collector

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

I received a 1909 Sovereign and it very nice condition. The is my first one so I am very excited. Understand that avg. circulation is not going to always look shiny and new, so they are bit cheaper than BU, but for a new investor/collector like myself they are perfect. Very happy with my purchase, will be buying more.

Received an 1891 coin, I was hoping for an older date. Badly scratched fields and quite a bit more wear than I expected from an APMEX coin.

So I requested a Victoria coin, but received a 1910 Sydney mint Edward VII. Though I was slightly disappointed at first, I ended up being pretty happy with the Australian coin due to the lower mintage (about 2M). Would buy one again!

Fantastic Addition!

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

I picked this product looking for a way to add to my bullion reserve. I like older stuff and they sent me a nice 1853 in about VF condition. It is beautiful and I can only imagine the hands it changed over the years! The premium is one of the lowest for sovereigns I have found.
