Read our customer reviews for testimonials about the quality and hear how some customers are receiving coins dating more than 100 years old. Before buying Gold Sovereign coins, it is a good idea to familiarize yourself with how the price of Gold is determined. The price of Gold coins combines the Gold spot price, which is the base price for the unrefined Precious Metal, plus markups to cover the distribution, fabrication and nominal dealer fee, together called the premium. This combination represents the price of Gold bullion that you will pay. When you buy rare Gold coins, the premium price will also include a markup for any numismatic or collector value.

Collect Gold Sovereign coins that are known for their beautiful design.

Gold Sovereign coins underwent a few different design changes since their arrival in 1817. While the Gold coins have always featured the reigning monarch on the obverse, it is the reverse designed in 1817 by Italian engraver, Benedetto Pistrucci, which has garnered the most attention. The reverse of the Gold bullion featured Pistrucci’s rendition of St. George slaying the dragon, and it marked a dramatic change from the traditional imagery depicted on coins at the time. The British Royal Mint continued to use this reverse until 1825 at which point they decided to return to a more conventional coat of arms; however, the design made a comeback from 1871 to 1877, and again from 1893 to today.

The Great Britain Gold Sovereign was first minted in 1827 and remained in circulation until 1932 when Britain went off the Gold standard.

Great historic coin at an affordable price!

So I requested a Victoria coin, but received a 1910 Sydney mint Edward VII. Though I was slightly disappointed at first, I ended up being pretty happy with the Australian coin due to the lower mintage (about 2M). Would buy one again!

  • Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

Fantastic Addition!

I picked this product looking for a way to add to my bullion reserve. I like older stuff and they sent me a nice 1853 in about VF condition. It is beautiful and I can only imagine the hands it changed over the years! The premium is one of the lowest for sovereigns I have found.

Sovereigns!!!

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

First order exceeded my expectation. Received one 1912 and one 2013. The 20th century coin had changed a few hands, whilst the one with the aging Queen looked like it had only been taken out of the Royal Mint packaging and placed in the holder. I’ll be squirreling more of these as resources allow. The St George design on the reverse is stunning, and holds a special place in my heart, since he is my daughter’s patron saint.

great buy

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

Cannot be happier with this purchase. I asked Apmex for an earlier date and they send me a 1912, close-to-mint-condition gold sovereign. IMO, George V is the handsomest on the obverse of such coins and to me 1912 has double significance: it is the last year of the Qing dynasty and the first year of the Republic of China. What a happy coincidence! All in all, very happy with this purchase and will definitely buy more in the future!

Great Britain Sovereign-Super Buy!

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

I bought 20 of these, expecting to get evenly worn G-VG quality coins. Instead I got a very nice variety spanning over a century of dates ranging mostly XF+ all the way to BU. Very, Very Pleased with this transaction. I am APMEX's newest fan. I am telling all my friends. There was a little dip in silver prices last week so I jumped in again and I just ordered 300 silver dollars and I can't wait to be pleasantly surprised again.
