This half dollar coin commemorates the centennial of the Statue of Liberty as a gift from France to the United States. It was the first commemorative half dollar struck with a clad composition. This coin is graded Proof 69 by NGC.
The obverse design by Edgar Z. Steever shows the Statue of Liberty standing before an immigrant ship entering New York Harbor. The reverse design by Sherl Winter depicts a family of immigrants viewing the city from Ellis Island.
