These Gold coins were the last issue of Histamenon which experienced radical debasement under Michael VII, a former money lender turned emperor. The currency would lose its value as the Byzantines attempted to continue to push the coin in export west.

Coin Highlights:
  • AV Histamenon Nomima from the Constantinople Mint.
  • These coins are in Extra Fine.
  • Obverse: Facing half-length bust of Christ Pantocrator, with cruciform nimbus, five pellets within each bar.
  • Reverse: Bust of Michael, wearing loros and saccos, holding jeweled vexillum with pellet on shaft in right hand and globus cruciger in left.
  • Sear 1868.
