This set includes a colorful 1 oz Silver Coin and a 1 gram gold bar featuring the pelican. Mintage on this unique set is only 999 worldwide.

Coin Highlights:
  • Mintage of 1,000.
  • Contains 1 oz of .999 fine Silver and 1 gram (0.03215 oz) of .9999 fine Gold.
  • Comes in a box with certificate of authenticity printed on inside of box.
  • Obverse: Displays the Barbados coat of arms along with the face value and purity. The Golden Shield of the Arms carries two Pride of Barbados flowers (the National Flower) and the Bearded Fig Tree (ficus Citrifolia). On either side of the shield are the supporters-on the right is a dolphin symbolic of the fishing industry and on the left is a Pelican, after Pelican Island, a small outcrop later incorporated into the Deep Water Harbour development. Above the shield is a helmet and mantling and on a wreath is the arm and hand of a Bajan holding two crossed pieces of sugar cane symbolic of the sugar industry. The Coat of Arms carries the motto "Pride and Industry."
  • Reverse Silver Coin: Features in color two Pelicans with the ocean and clouds in the background. One Pelican is standing on a pier post and the second Pelican is a close-up of a Pelican. The name of the coin, purity and year of issue is also on the reverse.
  • Reverse Gold Bar: Features a Pelican on a pier post with the ocean in the background.

Although the pelican is featured on the Coat of Arms, the bird is rarely seen in or around Barbados. The Pelican represents a small island that once existed off Barbados called Pelican Island. It was acquired in order to fortify the Deep Water Harbour.
