For a brief period in the 1860s, European powers, particularly France, attempted to reestablish the Mexican Empire. Maximilian I, an Austrian Archduke and the only ruler of the ill fated attempt, is featured on this coin.

- Mintage of 1,238,000.

- Obverse: Bust of Maximilian I right.
