South African Mint
Gold was discovered in 1886 near the Witwatersrand area of Johannesburg, and President Paul Kruger decided to establish a national mint. The South African Mint manufactures Proof Krugerrand and works with the Rand Refinery to mint the bullion Krugerrand. The mint produces coins on behalf of and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the South African Reserve Bank. Today, the South African Mint is one of the world's top exporting mints.
A low mintage of only 6,000 coins makes this a tough date to find in Proof condition. This Proof Krugerrand is not often available.
