The CC-79 $5 colonial note, issued on September 26, 1778, is a piece of Continental Currency from the American Revolutionary era. The front of the note features an emblem depicting a hand bleeding from thorn pricks, surrounded by the Latin motto "SUSTINE VEL ABSTINE," which translates to "Either survive or give up." This imagery reflects the struggles and hardships faced during the Revolutionary War. The reverse of the note has a nature print of willow leaves, a common anti-counterfeiting measure at the time.
