Product Details
Like all the coins in the Language of Flowers series, the Violet features an imprint of real flowers. Faithful to the tiniest detail, they are pressed using a special technique that captures them in their natural state.

This coin concludes our series The Language of Flowers. A delicate little plant with heart-shaped leaves and tiny, sweetly scented flowers from late winter to early spring, viola odorata has been highly prized for thousands of years because of its endearing appearance. The violet’s many symbolic meanings include modesty, restraint, innocence and steadfastness, not to mention faithfulness, loyalty and constancy in relationships. Giving purple violets to a lover reflects your devotion and that your thoughts are occupied by them, giving them to a friend is a signal of loving appreciation.

Coin Highlights:
  • Contains .4625 oz of silver.
  • Packaged with a mint box and a certificate of authenticity.
  • Mintage of 30,000 coins.
  • Obverse: The coin’s obverse shows a scene of trust and appreciation in which the faces of two people are turned towards each other, their eyes closed and hands clasped together. Both are wearing flowers in their hair.
  • Reverse: The reverse shows three fully open flowers and a bud, all of which are imprints of real violets. Behind them is a band of stylized violets. Violet
Violets have been given as a token of love since ancient times. The Greek poet Sappho created a poetic monument to the violet and the flower is linked with the mythological goddess of love, passion and procreation, known as Aphrodite in ancient Greece and Venus in ancient Rome. Violets are also strongly associated with devotion, so they are a delightful way to show a loved one how much they mean to you and how sincere your affection is. Dreaming of violets suggests you are in for some good fortune and success, while dreaming that you are picking violets suggests you have fallen in love, either with a person or with a project. To dream of giving violets suggests good fortune in your relationships. But let violets speak for themselves. They say: “I stand by you, come what may”. When giving violets, you give the gift of friendship and solidarity.

Language of Flowers Series
Whether to convey feelings of love, desire and friendship, congratulations and condolence, declarations of intent and even forbidden and unspeakable things, flowers have been used as a form of language throughout recorded history, each country and culture with its own version. The Language of Flowers series brings this age-old custom back to life and discusses the meanings, folklore, properties and uses of seven well-known flowers. The messages conveyed by those flowers are inspirational, so too is the technology used to bring nature to life on the coins. Opening with the rose, the series continues with the dandelion, marigold, forget-me-not, chamomile, peony and violet.

In all major religions, flowers are linked to the miracle of love, which has led to their main symbolic meanings. With its exceptionally beautiful petals, intoxicating scent and the delicacy of its unfurling blooms that suggest lips parting for a kiss, sensuality and fertility, the rose has indeed been an important symbol of love in its many forms for centuries.
