2024 South Africa 2 oz Proof Gold Krugerrand
The Krugerrand, first introduced in 1967, was the world's first modern gold bullion coin and this popular gold coin series is still a favorite with collectors and investors today. The Gold Krugerrands were minted as an option to promote South African gold in the international markets. Krugerrands have never been assigned a face value, but are still designed to derive their value from the current spot price of gold at the time they are traded.
The Gold Krugerrand is prized around the world for its world-renowned design inspired by the country’s history. The coins feature the South African Republic's first president on the obverse, Paul Kruger, as a representation of 19th century South African military and political affairs. On the reverse is a springbok – the country’s national animal – along with the date of minting and gold weight.
South African Mint
In 1886, shortly after gold was discovered near the Witwatersrand area of Johannesburg, South African President Paul Kruger decided to establish a national mint. Today, the South African Mint is one of the world's top exporting mints. The mint manufactures Proof Krugerrands and works with the Rand Refinery to mint the bullion Krugerrands. The mint produces coins on behalf of and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the South African Reserve Bank.
This is a great gold investment to add to your portfolio in a unique size of 2 troy ounces. The Krugerrand is South Africa's premier gold coin and is loved around the world for its simple, classic design.
