The Flowing Hair Dollar was struck in 1794 and 1795, with the 1794 version believed to be the very first silver dollar minted. Consequently, only about 1,758 coins were struck in 1794, making the 1794 Flowing Hair Dollar one of the rarest and most valuable coins in existence today.
In 1795, additional Flowing Hair Dollars were struck as the mint improved its techniques, but by the end of that year, the Flowing Hair design was replaced by the Draped Bust Dollar, which featured a new portrait of Liberty.
