Wojtek
In 1942, Polish soldiers in Iran found and adopted an orphaned bear cu and named him Wojtek. He was officially enlisted into the Polish armed forces and traveled to Ital, where he took part in the Battle of Monte Cassino. The friendly bear became a morale boost, bit it was elevated even higher when Wojtek made himself useful by copying other soldiers carry heavy ammunition crates.
After the war, Wojtek was sent to live at the Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland.
