In 1739, when the German Gerrit Schöne received a permanent contract as an essayist at the Amsterdam stock exchange, he created the Dutch company called Schöne Edelmetaal. Today, the company is one of the oldest precious metal processing companies in the world with a pleasing diversity of variants. Earlier versions of the gold bars show the Hermes stick, while later issues show a dove with an olive branch. The company has since belonged to Umicore.
