AV Hyprerpyron: This Gold coin is from the reign of John III Ducas emperor of Nicae (1222 - 1254 AD), (24mm - 3.5g), Magnesia mint. These coins were also known as syphates, thin cup shaped flans, also struck in Silver and bronze.
Obverse: Christ enthroned.
Reverse: John std. left crownded by Virgin right. Good detail on portrait of John and the Virgin.
