This coin honoring Shimane Prefecture was issued as part of Japan's 60th anniversary of the Enforcement of the Local Autonomy Law set of bimetallic coins celebrating the 47 prefectures of Japan.
Shown on the obverse of this issue is a representation of an old Japanese cast coin with the square central hole. Within the hole is a latent image that shows the numeral 60 changing to the numeral 47 when the coin is angled. Shown on the reverse is a bell shaped image with background designs showing close up patterning and animal pictograms. This coin comes housed in an information card.
