Pre-1965 90% Silver coins, sometimes referred to as junk Silver or scrap Silver, are a great way to start your Silver investments. These Silver coins were pulled from circulation with the introduction of copper/nickel clad coins and the rising demand of Silver. The public saved them for their 90% Silver content as a rainy day fund they can fall back on.

The history of Kennedy Half Dollars

Kennedy Half Dollars were a direct result of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. Discussion of creating these 90% Silver Half Dollars occurred within hours of the assassination, and Congress authorized the production of the Silver coins shortly thereafter. Due to quick authorization, the design of the Silver coins was based on a preexisting Kennedy portrait sculptor Gilroy Roberts made for the U.S. Mint’s Presidential medal series. The reverse of this Silver bullion is a modified version of the presidential seal created by then-U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Frank Gasparro.

Why invest in Kennedy Half Dollars?

Kennedy Half Dollars are considered by many to by a wise investment because they provide the opportunity to add to your Silver holdings at a lower price point. As legal tender U.S. Silver coins, these 90% Silver coins are also popular because they are easy to liquidate due to their worldwide recognition. While these Silver coins, and other 90% Silver coins, are often called junk Silver, the coins are anything but junk. These junk Silver coins are composed of .900 fine Silver and the coins are packaged in convenient 20-coin rolls.

Invest in Kennedy Half Dollars made of a Precious Metal that increases in value with Silver demand.

In 2014, the demand for Silver amounted to 1.07 billion ounces, with 196 million ounces used for Silver coin and bar production. Silver prices are affected by the overall demand for Silver, and the value of the Precious Metal increases when the demand is greater than the supply.

Nice clean roll of Kennedy's. No surprises - all in the AU range per PCGS Photograde, with a few low-end uncirculated examples in the bunch. Not a single problem coin - no dinged, dented, scratched, or cleaned coins. A nice roll.

Pros

  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Attractive Design
  • Easy to Sell

beware of poor condition coins

be very careful...of the 20 "Average Circulation" coins i purchased, one coin in particular was in super bad shape. It is literally almost black in color. It looks like someone tried to fry it on a frying pan, or maybe put it into a fire. a handful of the others had this blackish grime stuck on them. I'm going to try to clean them with some silver cleaner, but I know the brown/black one is well beyond the point of revival. I would not order anything through this company again. There is not quality control going on here. A one star might be too high here.

Cons

1964 Kennedy half dollar

By  John

This is an attractive coin, and for the 64 halves, average circulation means they hardly circulated at all. I'm not an expert coin grader, so I'll just say these coins show very little wear. I do wish these came in some sort of plastic tube to make storage easier.
