This is a Satirical Hard Times Token called Webster Credit Current from 1841, HT #22 graded Very Fine Details
Obverse depicts the United States Constitution as a ship on calm waters surrounded by WEBSTER / CREDIT CURRENT, dated 1841. Reverse depicts Van Buren's Experiment as a ship in a thunderstorm being driven into jagged rock surrounded by VAN BUREN / METALLIC CURRENCY, dated 1837. Daniel Webster 1782-1852, was a strong supporter of the Constitution as reflected by the sentiment of this token.
