South African Mint
In 1886, gold was discovered near the Witwatersrand area of Johannesburg and President Paul Kruger decided to establish a national mint. The South African Mint makes Proof Krugerrands and works with the Rand Refinery to mint the popular bullion Krugerrand. The mint generates coins on behalf of and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the South African Reserve Bank. Today, the South African Mint is one of the world's top exporting mints.
Only limited numbers of fractional Gold Krugerrands are struck in Proof. This coin has been sonicly sealed and certified as proof by the South African Mint.
