This medal of Mexico contains .2411 oz of Gold and is struck on a 10 peso Gold planchet. The purpose of this issue is to honor the bicentennial of Miguel Hidalgo's birth. The design depicts a half portrait of Hidalgo with a cathedral in the background. In fact, this is the exact design of the 1953 Silver 5 peso, which is listed in Krause as KM#468. This Gold medal is an interesting piece with an interesting history. Listed in Krause's Unusual World Coins as KM#M91a. Graded Mint State 68 by NGC.
