Not often encountered! This Gold coin is basically the Cuban version of the U.S. $20 Gold piece. They have identical Gold content of .9675 pf an ounce. Struck in limited numbers during a brief two year run, this coin features an image of Cuban national hero Jose Marti on the obverse. Marti was a key figure in the planning and execution of the Cuban War of Independence against Spain, as well as the designer of the Cuban Revolutionary Party and its ideology. The Cuban coat of arms graces the reverse of this Gold coin. Due to the low mintage figures these 20 peso coins are not often available, and are highly desirable. This example has been cleaned, but still exhibits AU details! Listed in Krause as KM#21.
