The $500 denomination dates to the Civil War, when the notes were large size (about 7.375 by 3.125 inches). The notes were reduced to their current size and first issued in 1928. The obverse of this 1934-A series bill features a central portrait of President William McKinley. The words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and “FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS" are printed on the reverse.
This particular Federal Reserve Note is from the Kansas City district, for which there were 55,200 notes printed. The serial number is J00049152A. This note has been graded Very Fine 30 by PCGS.
