The obverse subject is Matterhorn which is a mountain in the Pennine Alps on the border between Switzerland and Italy. Beneath the mountain reads "1 UNZE" and "1988" in between the "AH" symbol and "999.5 PT".
The reverse is a picture of "Helvetia" which is the female national personification of Switzerland. Shown in a flowing gown and with a crown of braided hair, she sits gracefully while holding a sword and shield emblazoned with the swiss flag.
