Beginning in 2008, the Republic of Rwanda commissioned a series of coins that depicted wildlife of their native land. All are beautifully crafter 1 oz silver coins with low mintages, making them highly sought after by collectors. This coin is the sixth of the series with a mintage of 10,000 as demand has risen with the rise in popularity. This coin is no longer being minted.
The obverse of this coin features the National Seal of Rwanda, which was adopted in 2001. The seal combines is a complex compilation of the various images that attempt to capture the essence of the nation; composed of ideograms of a dove and olive branch, a hoe and billhook, a bow and arrow, respectively symbolizing peace, work, and the defense of democratic liberties, in addition to the name and the motto of the Republic, all of it being framed by two National Flags placed opposite each other. The reverse shows a large outline of the continent of Afirca, and to the left sits a mother cheetah, intently scanning the horizon for any threat, her cub close by. Exquisite details and spectacular design make this coin a fantastic piece, and a great addition to the series.
