The history of the Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle
Only 12,367 high-relief Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle were struck in 1907, before the U.S. Mint insisted on a more practical low-relief version where the artwork was not higher than the edge of the coin. This particular highly collectible Gold Eagle can fetch $10,000 for circulated grades and almost a half million dollars for those in pristine condition. These Gold Eagle coins underwent a number of changes in the early years of the design, beyond the switch from high relief to low relief, including changing the Roman numeral date to Arabic numerals. These Gold coins did not include “In God We Trust” in the original design, but it was added in 1908.

Understand coin grading before buying Gold coins.
The grade and condition of Gold coins, and as a result, a coin’s value, is determined by a process called coin grading. The grade of a collectible Gold Eagle, or other Gold coins, is judged by five criteria: strike, preservation, luster, color and attractiveness. When grading Gold Eagle coins, or other vintage Gold coins, several grading systems can be used. Coin grading can be subjective and it is not uncommon for experts to disagree. That is why it is important to use top tier coin grading services like the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC).

Or, they may buy Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle and any other coins that were a part of the Renaissance of American coinage.
