The History of the $1,000 Dollar Bill

A rare find today, $1,000 dollar bills are genuine U.S. legal tender. Last printed in 1945, the government stopped the distribution of this denomination by 1969. These large bills were used for inter-bank and large private transactions, such as making a down payment on a house, and were seldom seen in circulation. The $1,000 bill’s value can be attributed to the date, condition and rarity of the currency. Because of the important history of this currency, $1,000 dollar bills are an excellent complement to any collection. Other popular bills to collect are the $500 and $100 dollar bills.
