Rwanda Silver Coins

Collectible silver coins offer several benefits. They can serve as tangible investments, providing a hedge against inflation and diversification within a portfolio. They often carry numismatic value, meaning their worth can exceed their metal content due to rarity, historical significance, or demand from collectors. Collectible silver coins also offer aesthetic appeal and can be a source of pride for collectors. Furthermore, they can be a way to explore and appreciate different cultures, art, and history. However, it's important to research and assess the market and current spot prices, authenticity, and grading of collectible coins before purchasing.

The Rwanda Mint offers several collectible silver coins series to choose from, including:

Silver Wildlife Coin Series

Minted by BH Mayer’s mint Kunstprageanstalt Gmbh Munich, Germany, the Rwanda Wildlife Series began in 2008 with the Silver Elephant coin. With a denomination of 100 shillings, the German-manufactured Rwanda 1 oz Silver Wildlife Series has begun to attract attention from coin collectors all over the world.

Celebrating the beauty of the animal kingdom, the Silver Wildlife Series portrays the amazing animals found on the African plains: the gorilla, elephant, lion, zebra, rhino, cheetah, impala, buffalo and meerkat. Retaining the same design since the Silver coin's release, the reverse depicts the official seal of Rwanda featuring tribal devices surmounted on a cogwheel and encircled by a square knot. However, unlike the reverse, the obverse of the coin changes annually but always features an illustration of a celebrated African animal, some of which are endangered, next to a beautiful depiction of Africa.

Rwanda Silver Lunar Series

In 2017, the Rwanda Lunar Ounce launched with the Year of the Rooster. Because of the protective packaging from the mint, these coins all arrive in phenomenal condition. The Chinese Lunar Calendar is one of the most popular theme for coins. The traditional Chinese calendar is a lunisolar calendar which reckons years, months and days according to astronomical phenomena. The Chinese animal zodiac, or shengxiao is a repeating cycle of 12 years, with each year being represented by an animal and its reputed attributes. Traditionally these zodiac animals were used to date the years. In order, the 12 animals are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. Each year is associated with a zodiac animal.

Rwanda Silver Nautical Ounce Series

In 2017, the Rwanda Nautical Ounce launched commemorating the 525th anniversary of the discovery of America featuring the expedition's famous flagship Santa Maria. Because of the protective packaging from the mint, these coins all arrive in phenomenal condition. Each Silver coin is made from 1 oz of .999 fine Silver. Each Silver coin in this series is struck within a strictly limited minting period (August 2017 - March 2018), making each coin exclusive and ensuring low mintages. Final mintage numbers are currently unknown.
