The history of Silver Kookaburra coins

Look at the 2015 Silver Kookaburra coin, and immediately you are drawn to the eye-catching Kookaburra design on the reverse. Each year these 1 oz Silver coins feature a new Kookaburra design, and past years have shown the bird in a variety of situations, ranging from feeding babies to soaring through the air. Like all Australian coins, these Silver coins feature a likeness of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. This Silver bullion coin is the anniversary edition of the popular series, and its design is the same one that was featured on the first Kookaburra coin in 1990.

Why invest in the Silver Kookaburra coins?

Many investors choose Silver bullion as a way to preserve wealth and diversify their portfolio. The Silver price per ounce tends to remain stable during inflationary times, and Silver is recognized as valuable no matter where you go in the world. These Australian coins have the added benefit of being guaranteed for weight and purity by the Australian government, and they are approved for use with a Precious Metals IRA. These world coins also have the added benefit of having numismatic, or collector, value.

Save for retirement with Silver Kookaburra coins in a Precious Metals IRA.

Silver Kookaburra coins are one of the few Silver bullion coins that can be used for a Precious Metals IRA. These 1 oz Silver coins meet the Internal Revenue Service’s minimum fineness requirements for Silver, and buying these Silver bullion coins to add to your Precious Metals IRA is easy with the assistance of our IRA specialists. Adding physical Silver such as these Australian coins to your retirement portfolio can provide protection against economic downturns, international tensions and other unexpected events. The relative purchasing power of Silver bullion tends to remain stable when other investments like stocks and bonds waver.

Great Coin

I'm working on a 2015 collection of world 1oz silver coins. Having never purchased from APMEX before, I was taking a gamble, expecting to receive some second hand piece showing signs of handling. What I received looked minty fresh and was gorgeous, sent in a direct fit capsule. This coin has a reverse-proof-like finish that's quite stunning. There is quite a bit of detail in the reverse, making it quite handsome. I've also noticed that Australia and the UK have much more detailed, striking renditions of QEII on the obverse. Very pleased with my overall purchase.

Pros

  • Recognized Brand

Nice Anniversary Kookaburra

By  Len

from East Hanover, NJ

5.0

I purchased this coin because it was new for 2015 and because it celebrates the 25-year anniversary of the Australian Kookaburra coins from Australia. The detail on both the reverse and obverse is well done and the special band outlining the 1990-2015 date range is unique. The contrasting sheen between the mirror and matte finishes make this a very attractive, artful coin.

Pros

  • Recognized Brand
  • Attractive Design
  • Value (low premium over spot)

These 2015 Kookaburra's are absolutely beautiful. I purchased a few originally, just to diversify my coins. I liked how they come in there own protective capsule and how much detail they show so I went ahead and placed an order for 100. Thanks APMEX!

Pros

  • Recognized Brand
  • Mint Condition
  • Collectible (lower mintage)

a beautiful and highly detailed design..

the 2015 kookaburra is a beautiful addition to my collection. amazing detail and is also a 25th year anniversary of the kook which will probably help its value appreciate.. -only downfall to this purchase, as well as the 2015 kookaburra (w/goat privy) and 2015 koala.. is that the capsules they already come in, allow for slight movement causing the coin to rattle a little. not enough to bring its rating down a star, but i will definitely be purchasing a 40mm air-tite for it.

Pros

  • Mint Condition
  • Attractive Design
  • Easy to Sell
  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Recognized Brand
  • Collectible (lower mintage)

How do BU Silver Kookaburra coins differ from Proof Silver Kookaburra coins?

Since the release of the Silver Kookaburra coin series in 1990, the Perth Mint has always created two versions of these popular coins, a brilliant uncirculated coin and a proof coin. The Proof 1 oz Silver coins have a mirror-like coin table or background, and the design elements have a frosted appearance. The brilliant uncirculated Australian coins feature the reverse of the proof Silver coins, and go above and beyond the usual worldwide standards for Silver bullion coins. Many call the brilliant uncirculated Silver Kookaburra coin a “reverse proof” because the coin table appears frosty while the design elements have a shiny look.
