Buy Proof Silver American Eagle Coins Online

APMEX offers Proof American Silver Eagles to add to your Silver Eagle coin collection. Proof coins are struck multiple times on specially prepared planchets to provide a unique finish that collectors praise and value. American Eagle Silver Proof coins have been minted at a variety of mints, including Philadelphia, San Francisco and West Point. Unlike their bullion counterparts, American Silver Eagle Proof coins do feature a mint mark indicating where they were produced, as they are intended for the collector market. The American Silver Eagle has a face value of one dollar and contains one troy ounce of .999 fine Silver. Released in 1986, the Silver American Eagle is America’s only official investment-grade Silver bullion coin. It is also the world’s only Silver bullion coin whose weight, content, and purity are guaranteed by the United States Government.

American Silver Eagle Design

Adolph A. Weinman’s iconic depiction of Lady Liberty adorns the obverse of all versions of the American Silver Eagle coin. This design originated in 1916 for the nation’s Half Dollar coin. It features Liberty in left-profile relief as she walks toward the setting sun on the horizon. With the American flag draped over her shoulders, she is carrying the oak and laurel branches in her left arm while her right hand is outstretched toward the horizon.

Depicted on the reverse side of all Silver Eagles is the image of the heraldic eagle of the United States. This particular design is a modern portrayal of the bald eagle with its wings spread wide and the national shield on its chest. Clutched in its talons are the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in the other. It holds a ribbon in its beak with the phrase “E Pluribus Unum,” and above its head is a cluster of 13 stars arranged in a triangle. Each of the stars represents one of the original 13 colonies in America.

2021 Silver Eagle Design

In October of 2020, the United States Mint has unveiled the new reverse designs for the 2021 American Eagle Silver coins. 2021 marks the 35th Anniversary of the American Eagle Coin program. AIP Designer Emily Damstra created the new Silver design, which was sculpted by Mint Medallic Artist Michael Gaudioso. The 2021 design features an elegant American bald eagle flying back toward its nest with its wings spread out, holding an oak branch in its talons. This marks the first change of the beloved Silver Eagle designs since the exceptionally popular bullion-coin program began in 1986.
