Somalian Silver Elephant Bullion Coin Series

The Silver Elephant Coin is in the African Wildlife Coin Series, commemorating Africa's prestigious elephant. Minted by the Das Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt Mint (Bavarian State Mint) in Munich, Germany, Silver Elephant coins were first issued in 1999. Commissioned by Zambia until 2004, when the country of issue changed to Somalia, the German-manufactured 1 oz Silver Elephant Coin attracted attention from coin collectors worldwide.

Some of the most intriguing silver bullion coins on the market, these African Wildlife series coins celebrate the beauty and majesty of the largest animal of the African plains. The coins depict elephants in family groups or isolated before lush landscapes, towering mountains, and sunsets.

In 2017, the silver Elephant coins expanded the series by adding coins in these sizes: 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/2 oz sizes. All sizes now include 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, 1 oz, 2 oz, 5 oz, 10 oz, and 1 kilo silver coins. The price of these coins may vary as silver spot prices fluctuate.

After finding the right silver coins from the Bavarian State Mint to add to your silver portfolio, explore some of our other popular silver coins for investments or collecting. While the Silver Elephant and Leopard Coins have beautiful and iconic designs, it's important to many collectors and investors to supplement their portfolio with unique designs and country origins. Silver coinage can be a great way to do this compared to gold due to the lower cost per ounce.

Silver Elephant Series Capsules

The capsules that contain these coins are some of the finest coin storage and display products. These clear acrylic capsules provide a lifetime of long-term protection.

Silver Leopard Series

Like the first release of the African Wildlife series, the Silver Somalian Leopards have a limited mintage of 30,000 coins worldwide. Each coin is made from .9999 fine silver. Celebrating the beauty of the animal kingdom, the Silver Leopard Coin portrays one of the fastest animals found on the African plains, the leopard. Minted by the Das Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt Mint in Munich, Germany. These German-manufactured silver Leopard coins attract attention from coin collectors worldwide.

The Bavarian Mint Somalian Relationship

You may be led to believe that the African Wildlife series is of African origin. Since 2004, the coin's obverse has included the Somali Republic coat of arms. But despite their imagery, these coins are produced by the Das Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt Mint, or Bavarian State Mint, in Germany. This partnership has undoubtedly contributed to the coin's popularity, as the Bavarian State Mint is known worldwide for exceptional quality. Minting coins since 1158, it is the oldest mint in Munich.
