Buying Platinum and Palladium Bullion Online with APMEX
Platinum and Palladium are unique as they are desirable to investors but are often overlooked due to the hype of other Gold and Silver coins. At times, investing in Platinum and Palladium can be limited compared to Silver and Gold coins because there is not as wide a variety of products. However, the importance of the industrial uses of Platinum and Palladium should not be overlooked by investors. Both Precious Metals are critical to the auto industry, dental industry and are required in a wide range of electrical equipment.
With Platinum and Palladium continually growing in popularity, the best time to collect and invest is now. APMEX carries a wide range of bullion to appeal to investors and collectors looking to diversify their portfolio or collection.
Platinum and Palladium Bullion Coins
Platinum and Palladium bullion coins come in several different designs and sizes, which provides a diverse selection for various budgets. Investors of all types can find value in purchasing coins from reputable dealers, like APMEX. These coins can often serve as collectible investments because of their designs, scarcity and demand. New coins are minted in different variations with each passing year, while others are only produced once and have limited mintages.
APMEX sells coins produced by the most trusted mints in the world to guarantee high-quality bullion on the market. Here is our most popular bullion available for purchase through APMEX:
-
American Platinum and Palladium Eagles: The Platinum American Eagle, first released in 1997, is made with a .9995 fineness. These coins are the only investment-grade Platinum from the United States Mint, making them highly valued by investors and collectors alike. The U.S. Mint also releases an annual American Platinum Eagle Proof that features a new reverse design every year. Since its introduction, this American Eagle has become one of the world’s most widely traded Platinum bullion coins.
In 2018, the U.S. Mint added Palladium to the American Eagle program. The program originally consisted of only Gold and Silver Eagles, so Palladium was the first new metal introduced in over 20 years. These 1 oz Palladium Eagles combine the traditional obverse of the Mercury dime with a reverse designed by Adolph Weinman in 1907. Each Eagle contains 1 oz of .9995 fine Palladium and is great for any collection of this popular series.
-
Austrian Platinum Philharmonic: In 2016, the Austrian Mint released its first Platinum bullion coin with its traditional Vienna Philharmonic design. The coin features the same design as the Gold and Silver Philharmonics, Europe’s leading bullion coin.
The coin's obverse displays the Great Pipe Organ in Vienna’s Golden Hall, which houses the Philharmonic Orchestra. The coin’s reverse depicts a medley of selected instruments from the world-famous orchestra. Minted in Vienna, the Austrian Platinum Philharmonic coins contain a .9995 fineness.
-
Australian Platinum Kangaroo: The Perth Mint introduced the first 1 oz Australian Kangaroo Platinum bullion coin in 2018. Struck by The Perth Mint with a .9995 fineness and a denomination value of $100 (AUD) backed by the Australian federal government. These coins feature some of the same designs as their famous Gold and Silver counterparts.
-
British Platinum Britannia: A symbol of strength and progress, Britannia is a familiar presence standing watch at the shoreline for protection. Coin investors worldwide search for these collectible Platinum coins to add to their Precious Metals portfolios. Coins bearing these images symbolize the heritage of British minting to investors around the globe.
-
Canadian Platinum and Palladium Maple Leafs: First minted in 1988, the Platinum Canadian Maple Leaf has long been the standard coin in Platinum trading. During their mintages between 1988 and 2001, these coins were available in 1 oz and many fractional sizes. In 2009, the Royal Canadian Mint reintroduced the Platinum Maple Leaf in only the 1 oz size. Considered legal Canadian tender, the Maple Leafs contain a .9995 fineness and have a face value of $50 (CAD).
First minted in November 2005, the Palladium Maple Leaf coin is the latest addition to the Maple Leaf series. As the first Palladium product introduced by the Royal Canadian Mint, it is guaranteed by the Canadian government for a .9995 fineness and a face value of $50 (CAD).
-
South African Platinum Krugerrand: To celebrate 50 years for the Gold Krugerrand, the South African Mint produced its popular Krugerrand design in Platinum. The Platinum Krugerrand has a limited mintage of 1,967 coins representing the initial year the Krugerrand was produced. Each coin is 1 oz with a .9999 fineness.
The Platinum Krugerrand obverse displays Paul Kruger's likeness and the words “South Africa” in Afrikaans and English. The reverse features the iconic Springbok antelope design that has been on Krugerrands since its first mintage in 1967.

Platinum and Palladium Bullion Bars
Platinum and Palladium bars come in sizes from 1 gram to 10 oz or more, and every size in between. The most-traded Platinum and Palladium bars are 1 oz or less, often purchased by avid investors.
1 oz bars often come with an assay card to display the purity and weight of the bar. Platinum and Palladium bullion bars are stamped with a serial number. Smaller bars are sealed in an assay card displaying the matching serial number, weight measurement and other relevant information for security and reassurance. Bars can be an excellent addition to any mixed investment portfolio of Precious Metals.
Buying bars is one of the safest, cost-effective and easiest ways to purchase physical Platinum and Palladium. Bars match sovereign coins in content and purity but cost less over the Platinum and Palladium spot price. Here are some mints most well-known for their bars that APMEX has for sale:
- Credit Suisse Mint Platinum and Palladium
- PAMP Suisse Mint
- Valcambi Mint
Platinum and Palladium Bullion Rounds
Investors solely interested in Platinum and Palladium’s stable purchasing power can find security in rounds. Rounds are circular discs often manufactured by private mints, though sometimes produced by government mints. They have no true “face value” because they are not recognized as legal tender. Though not as collectible as some coins, rounds are minted to an equally high standard with intricate designs, clean striking and a mirrored finish.
Bullion rounds come in many sizes, from 1 gram to 1 oz, and every size in between. The most-traded bullion rounds are 1 oz or less. Platinum and Palladium rounds typically sell for a lower premium relative to spot prices than coins. Bullion rounds are perfect for any customer with interest in coin collecting or investments.
