The Civil Rights Act of 1964 is a piece of legislation that outlawed discrimination based on race, religion, sex or nationality. It ended segregation in schools, the workplace and public accommodations. The Act was signed into law by Lyndon B. Johnson in the summer of 1964. This bill was originally set into motion by President John F. Kennedy in the summer of 1963. This was a landmark Act as it paved the way and provided a blueprint for other bills of similar nature such as the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
