The U.S. Mint Gold Buffalo coins are a unique piece of American coinage. First issued in 2006, the American 1 oz Gold Buffalo was the first .9999 fine Gold Bullion from the U.S. Mint. American Buffalo coins are made to the exacting U.S. Mint standards and prized throughout the world.
The American Gold Buffalo Coin Design
The Gold Buffalo coin is based on James Earle Fraser's famous 1913 Buffalo Nickel design. The American Gold Buffalo coin recaptures the spirit of the 1913-1914 American $20 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle, considered by many to be one of the most beautiful American coins ever issued. Fraser's most famous design is his 1913 Buffalo Nickel, also known as the Indian Head Nickel, which is prized by collectors for its beauty and historical significance. Fraser died in New York City in 1953, but his legacy continued with the American Gold Buffalo coins when the U.S. Mint announced the new coins on the 110th anniversary of Fraser’s original coin design.
The obverse shows the famous Indian Head design. Classic buffalo artwork is on the reverse, modeled after Black Diamond, the bison who lived in New York City's Central Park Zoo in the early 1900s. The Gold Buffalo brings back the design with finer detail and glory, creating a collectible coin that is both beautiful and valuable.

I bought the 1 oz American gold Buffalo because I wanted a 24k gold coin from the US mint that was easy to sell. This coin met my expectations perfectly. It is very heavy with a nice rugged design. On top of that, gold has gone up $57 since my purchase. Wonderful coin!
