The Shield of Achilles
In the battle between the great warrior Achilles and Prince Hector of Troy, Achilles' shield is described by Homer as a series of concentric circles starting with the center of the shield and working outward as the land, sea, air and constellations followed by cities with people and events including a court case, wedding and military siege followed by a field being plowed, a king's estate being harvested, a vineyard being picked, a herd of straight-horned cattle with a bull being attacked by lions and the herdsman fending it off, a sheep farm, men and women dancing and finally a great storm at sea. The final design is based upon the artistic interpretation of Angelo Monticelli from Le Costume Ancien ou Moderne in 1820.

I liked the design when I saw it on the site but was hesitant. I’m glad I pulled the trigger on this purchase. In person the design is flawless and absolutely beautiful. I do however dislike the proof mark the ag999 2oz is small and it’s hard to tell if it’s engraved or some form of stamp along the rim. It’s a personal opinion I know. it’s an awesome stacker for sure either way.I am ordering more asap

I wasn't planning on adding higher premium silver to my stack, but after seeing these stackers come on sale I had to pick up a couple. the convex design is unique, the design of the face is detailed, well made, and beautiful, and the way the face of one clicks into the incuse striking of another is just fantastic. Definitely a good piece to add to your stack for the sheet 'neat' factor. Be sure to get at least 2 though, the design really can't be appreciated unless you get the experience of fitting them together. In addition, the larger 2oz size, and the curved shape gives these coins a beautiful resonance when giving them a ping test. The clear silver sound rings through beautifully. These could definitely be used as a desk piece and mounted with a small soft hammer to play with the sound.
