Lionel Trains and the APMEX Mint Car Starter Set
This classic American toy company became the standard for quality model trains. Founded in 1900 by Joshua Lionel Cowen in New York City, their first train model was the Electric Express. The story goes that Cowen intended to leverage public fascination with electricity and trains to direct customer attention toward other products for sale. With larger sizes and solid construction, Lionel train models were seen as a greater value than those offered by their main competitors. From the mid-1940s through the 50s, Lionel was the largest and most successful manufacturer of toy trains.
