2 oz Silver Libertad Reverse Proof
These 2 oz Libertad coins are struck in .999 fine silver and display Mexico’s national coat of arms on the obverse, surrounded by historic versions of the emblem used throughout the nation’s past. The coin features a distinctive Reverse Proof finish and represents the sixth year the 2 oz Reverse Proof Libertad has been issued. Earlier releases in the series have proven popular with collectors and often sell out quickly.

The reverse highlights two important national symbols: the Winged Victory statue and the volcanoes Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl. According to Aztec legend, these mountains represent two tragic lovers. Princess Iztaccíhuatl and the warrior Popocatépetl were deeply devoted to one another. Before allowing their marriage, the princess’s father required Popocatépetl to defeat a rival enemy. While the warrior was away in battle, false news of his death reached the princess, and she died from grief. When Popocatépetl returned victorious and discovered what had happened, the gods transformed the two into mountains so they could remain together forever.

Mexican Mint
Libertad coins are produced by La Casa de Moneda de México, the Mexican Mint, which is the oldest mint in North America. Founded in 1535, it serves as the official mint of Mexico. The Bank of Mexico, the nation’s central bank, is its largest client and oversees the production of circulating coinage, currency, and precious metal coin programs. The Mexican Mint operates from Mexico City.
