It is important that the legacy of the Native Americans is not forgotten. These people lived prosperously in the untamed lands for centuries. With a mintage of just 1,000, collectors can be sure about the rarity of this inspiring set as we walk through history around the nation and celebrate the 50 states like never before. Check out these and more from the Native American Mint.
About George Rogers Clark National Park
George Rogers Clark National Historical Park commemorates the capture of Fort Sackville in 1779, a decisive Revolutionary War victory that helped secure the Northwest Territory. The park sits on the banks of the Wabash River, a vital North American–French trade route. In the 18th century, the Miami controlled the profitable portage between the Maumee and Wabash Rivers.
The Miami (Myaamiaki) were part of the Great Lakes tribes, speaking an Algonquian language and occupying territory across north-central Indiana, southwest Michigan, and western Ohio. Most of the Miami people were forcibly displaced by 1846 to Indian Territory.
The name Wabash comes from the Miami-Illinois word waapaahšiiki, describing the white limestone riverbed in Huntington County, Indiana, where the water appeared to “shine white.”
