Monnaie de Paris celebrates the 40th Anniversary of Musée D'Orsay with the newest release in the French Excellence Series. This shaped coin has a limited mintage of 5,000 coins.

Coin Highlights:
  • Contains .714 oz of fine silver.
  • This magnificent shaped coin comes in a box with a certificate of authenticity from the Monnaie de Paris.
  • Mintage of 5,000 coins.
  • Obverse: Features several characters from iconic works that interact as if awakened beneath the glass roof, discovering the museum together. In the foreground, Francois Pompon's Ours Blanc and Vincent van Gogh's Portrait de l'artiste stand side by side. Behind them, Edouard Manet's Le Fifre and Claude Monet's la Femme a l'ombrelle tournée vers la gauche complete the scene. Edgar Degas's la Petite danseuse de quatorze ans also appears, catured inside the building in front of the large fifth floor clock. Together, these decorative elements are incorporated into the frame of the great clock, one of the defining symbols of the Musée d'Orsay's history.
  • Reverse: Highlights the architectural structure of the Musée d'Orsay. It features four flower-adorned coffers that line the nave, enclosed within a riveted metal framework that echoes the rhythm of the ceiling, unchanged since the creation of the Orsay railway station.
  • Guaranteed by the Monnaie de Paris.

Musée d'Orsay
The Musée d'Orsay is a world-famous art museum in Paris, housed in a stunning former Beaux-Arts railway station (the Gare d'Orsay) built in 1900. It's best known for its extraordinary collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masterpieces, featuring artists like Monet, Van Gogh, Renoir, Degas, and Cézanne. The building itself is a work of art, with its giant glass roof and ornate gilded clock offering gorgeous natural light and views. It sits right on the Left Bank of the Seine, across from the Louvre and the Tuileries Garden. Many consider it the perfect complement to the Louvre—smaller, more focused, and covering art from roughly 1848 to 1914.

Monnaie de Paris
Founded in 1864, not only is Monnaie de Paris France's longest standing institution, but it is also the oldest enterprise in the world. Today, the mint strikes circulation coins for France, as well as beautiful gold and silver commemorative coin programs that are each intricately designed works of art. The mint is also home to a museum that hosts exhibitions, tours and workshops as well as the Guy Savoy Restaurant.
