The Importance of Proper Storage

Proper storage of precious metals is important to ensure their preservation and protect their value over time. Here are some key reasons why:

  • Protection from physical damage: Precious metals like gold, silver, and platinum are relatively soft and can be easily scratched, dented, or otherwise damaged if they are not stored properly. Proper storage methods can protect these metals from physical damage.
  • Protection from theft: Precious metals are valuable and can be targets for theft. Proper storage methods can help protect your investment from theft by making it more difficult for thieves to access your precious metals.
  • Protection from environmental factors: Precious metals can be affected by environmental factors such as moisture, heat, and light. Exposure to these factors can cause damage or discoloration to the metals over time. Proper storage methods can protect your precious metals from these environmental factors.
  • Easy retrieval: Proper storage methods can help you easily retrieve your precious metals when you need them. For example, if you need to sell your metals, having them stored in a secure and organized way can make it easier to access and transport them.

Some common methods for storing precious metals include safety deposit boxes, home safes, and secure storage facilities. When choosing a storage method – including things such as capsules, tubes, and boxes – it's important to consider factors such as security, accessibility, and environmental conditions to ensure your precious metals are properly protected.

History of the Mexican Mint

The Mexican Mint, also known as the Casa de Moneda de México, is one of the oldest mints in the Americas and has a rich history dating back over 450 years.

The mint was founded in 1535 by the Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés, who established it in Mexico City to produce the first coins for use in the New World. These early coins were made from precious metals, such as gold and silver, that were mined from the surrounding areas.

Over the years, the mint continued to produce coins for the Spanish Empire, including the famous Spanish silver dollar, also known as the "piece of eight," which became the standard currency in many parts of the world.

After Mexico gained independence from Spain in 1821, the mint continued to produce coins for the new Mexican government, including the first Mexican coins with national symbols such as the eagle and the cactus.

In the 20th century, the mint underwent modernization and expansion, and today it is one of the largest and most advanced mints in the world, producing not only coins but also medals, bullion, and other precious metal products.

Throughout its long history, the Mexican Mint has played an important role in the development of Mexican and world economies, and its coins and other products continue to be highly prized by collectors and investors today.
