This medal bears the same design seen on the $100 Gold American Liberty coin struck in 2015. Unlike 2015’s $100 Gold American Liberty coin, however, this 2016 Silver version is not legal tender and bears no denomination.
This medal was produced by both the West Point and the San Francisco Mint facilities. Because both facilities struck this medal using their respective "S" and "W" mint marks, two different versions of the medal are available to collectors. This is similar to the 10th anniversary of 9/11 medals issued by the U.S. Mint back in 2011. These medals were struck by San Francisco and West Point Mints, resulting in "S" and "W" mint marks.
Other than the difference in the mint marks, the design of the 2016 Silver American Liberty Medal is the same. Each medal was struck 3 times with 219 metric tons of pressure by a Graebener GMP 360 TK coinage press. The medals were minted using a vertical die, the obverse struck by a hammer die and the reverse created by the anvil die.

This genuine coin was quite obviously removed from the US Mint packaging at some point, and later replaced. There are fingerprints and dust on the INSIDE of the plastic capsule. I assume it went out for grading, didn't make MS-69 and was then replaced into US Mint packaging. Had this been done in proper conditions, I never would have noticed.
