Coin sold as BU, but was sent a very scuffed damaged coin. Have spent a lot of money with APMEX since 2009 but My last order will be just that, My last. After paying to ship back with insure, its just throwing good money after bad. Was to be a Graduation gift but would not give this dog to anyone for anything but bullion value.
- Cons
- Poor Condition
- Bottom Line
- No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Merchant response: Ski: We are sorry you were disappointed with this item. Our service department has been in contact with you to return the item via prepaid label. We hope a satisfactory resolution to this matter restores your faith in APMEX.

The 1988 1/4 Maple leaf looks to have been used in a coin toss. Not only scruffy, but dinged, and damaged. Queen looks to have been bit by a vampire ( 2 nicks in her neck) Thought it was BU but I guess I got Morgan's coin listed below .Was to be a gift but got to go to plan B.
- Cons
- Poor Condition
- Bottom Line
- No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Merchant response: Ski: We’re sorry to learn you are not pleased with this item as you were expecting it to be a BU. We apologize for any misunderstanding as it is a random year but not BU. We are reaching out to you via e-mail to see if we may offer assistance with this item should you wish to exchange it. We want you to be happy with your purchase.

I wanted a way to invest in gold that is affordable, gives me a variety of products, and allows me to have the coins rather than certificates. The large variety and sizes of items at Apmex is making that easy. Though I pay a bit more because I'm collecting 1/4 oz rather than full oz coins, this gives me the flexibility to buy more often, and to eventually sell in small amounts. The simple but durable packaging of the coins is good for long-term storage.
- Pros
- Easy to Sell
- Value (low premium over spot)
- Recognized Brand
- Attractive Design
- Bottom Line
- Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

Gold is gold and there is the value! Apmex never failed me until now. This coin was listed as BU. Customer Rep. said it was BU. The face of the coin was so badly scuffed that it looked like it had been in poker matches since 1988. An extremely poor appearance!
- Pros
- Value (low premium over spot)
- Cons
- Poor Condition
- Bottom Line
- No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Merchant response: Morgan: You shouldn't have received a damaged coin. Our customer service team is reaching out to you in an effort to make this error right. We apologize.
