2022 American Eagles
The design used on modern Silver Eagles traces back to Adolph A. Weinman’s famous Walking Liberty image, first introduced on circulating U.S. coinage in 1916 during an era focused on improving the artistic quality of American coins. On the original Silver Eagle obverse, Liberty strides forward wrapped in the American flag, extending her right hand while holding branches of laurel and oak in her left.

In 2021, the United States Mint introduced a new reverse design for the series. Created by U.S. Mint Artistic Infusion Program designer Emily Damstra and sculpted by Mint Medallic Artist Michael Gaudioso, the updated artwork depicts a single eagle descending toward its nest with an oak branch held in its talons.
