2022 American Eagles
The design used on the American Silver Eagle dates back to Adolph A. Weinman’s celebrated Walking Liberty artwork. While the Silver Eagle series began in 1986, the design itself originally appeared on U.S. circulating coinage decades earlier. The obverse shows Liberty striding forward wrapped in the American flag, extending her right hand while holding branches of laurel and oak in her left.

Beginning in 2021, the United States Mint introduced a new reverse design for the series. This updated image was created by Artistic Infusion Program designer Emily Damstra and sculpted by Mint Medallic Artist Michael Gaudioso. The design depicts a single eagle descending with an oak branch in its talons as if returning to its nest.
