Updated Silver Eagle Design
The initial design of the American Eagle series, was in use from 1986 until midyear 2021. It was based on the Walking Liberty design by Adolph A. Weinman, first utilized in 1916, in addition to a reverse craftred by John Mercanti. To celebrate 35 years of the American Eagle issues, U.S. Mint AIP Designer Emily Damstra and Medallic Artist Michael Gaudioso collaborated to design a new reverse for the series. The design showcases an American eagle preparing to land, holding an oak branch in its talons.
