Boston Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox are a professional baseball team based in Boston, Massachusetts, and are one of Major League Baseball’s (MLB) oldest and most storied franchises. Established in 1901 as one of the American League’s eight charter teams, the Red Sox quickly became a powerhouse, winning five World Series championships by 1918. However, the team then faced an 86-year championship drought, often attributed to the infamous “Curse of the Bambino” following the sale of Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees in 1919. This era was marked by heartbreaking near-misses and intense rivalries, especially with the Yankees. The curse was famously “broken” in 2004 when the Red Sox made history by becoming the first team to overcome a 0-3 deficit in a best-of-seven playoff series, eventually sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals to win their sixth World Series title. Since then, the Red Sox have continued to succeed, winning four championships in the 21st century. Fenway Park, their home stadium since 1912, is the oldest ballpark in MLB and is renowned for its “Green Monster,” the iconic left-field wall that adds unique character to the park and challenges to the game. The Red Sox are beloved for their passionate fan base, historic moments, and role in baseball’s rich history.
