New York Mets
The New York Mets, based in Queens, New York City, are a Major League Baseball (MLB) team with a passionate fan base and a colorful history. Founded in 1962 as an expansion team to replace the National League’s departed New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers, the Mets quickly captured the hearts of New Yorkers. Known for their blue and orange colors (a nod to the old Giants and Dodgers), the Mets have played most of their history at Shea Stadium and, since 2009, at Citi Field. The team achieved a "miracle" first World Series title in 1969, defeating the heavily favored Baltimore Orioles, a feat that earned them the nickname “Amazin’ Mets.” They won their second World Series in 1986 in an unforgettable seven-game series against the Boston Red Sox, best remembered for the dramatic Game 6 comeback that featured Mookie Wilson’s grounder through Bill Buckner’s legs. The Mets have made several playoff appearances since, including a run to the World Series in 2000 (the "Subway Series" against the Yankees) and again in 2015. Known for their loyal and spirited fans, the Mets have carved out a distinct identity in New York’s sports scene, often embracing an underdog status and cultivating a culture of resilience.
